A Deus Ex Machina is when some new event, character, ability, or object solves an seemingly insolvable problem in a sudden and unexpected way. A real life example of this type of solution could be someone falling from the top of a building, hanging from the bars just as another person comes out of nowhere and pulls the victim to safety. Another example is in the movie Mean Girls, when the four girls are doing the Christmas dance and one of them kicks the boom box off the stage and the music stops. Lindsay Lohan then starts singing the words to the song and suddenly saves their performance. In another movie, "Pirates of the Caribbean," Keira Knightley falls off of a cliff into the water after passing out in result her dress being too tight. The Deus Ex Machina is when Johnny Depp dives in after her, saving her and himself (from jail).

My name is Kirby Jay. I do not know much about the class "Art and Technology" but after the first class session I was excited to be introduced to something outside of my normal range. I have never been great with computers or any form of technology, so I assume the class may come as a challenge to me. I expect to learn new concepts and ideas from the class that will help me excel as a well rounded journalism student.
